Description
This auction is for1967 Criterion (USA) Dynascope RV6 6-inch primary mirror with its original reflective coatings. It can still work as a very good reflector, but for optimal performance that these Criterion mirrors are reputed for, it needs to be sent to a mirror coating lab and will end-up being an even better mirror as the reflective coatings offered today are superior to what was available 50+ years ago.

Criterion mirrors are still held in high esteem to this day as their advertisement of 1/8-the wave or better optics is easily witnessed in the views. Granted the telescope is properly collimated and in this case, the coatings are excellent or better, even on a less-than-steady night of seeing, images are pleasing on all accounts. I have owned 8 Criterion reflectors, (6) RV6s and (2) RV8s. ALL of these reflectors consistently exhibited crisp images of the Pleiades, M42, M103, M52, the Double Cluster, M37, M13, M92, and M22. Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars all showed levels of detail that came awfully close to my Borg 125-SD apochromat refractor, Celestron C-102 Fluorite and are better than I've seen in any Meade Starfinder 6 or even the well-reputed Orion SkyQuest 6XT.
These mirrors were handmade in the USA at a time when demand for high quality entry-level telescopes was at a peak; especially with the building stages of going for the Moon with the Apollo missions. As such no optical quality was spared in these reflectors' mirrors and to this day, they will serve you QUITE well.
A very cool feature of this Criterion primary mirror is that that it is a VERY COMMON format size of mirrors. Even to this day there are MANY 6-inch f/8 reflector models out there. Aside from the unusual Celestron StarHopper 6, which used very thin, bowl-shaped primary mirrors, this mirror can be used as a direct swap-out. Meade with their Starfinder 6 f/8, the Parks Precision 6 f/8, Edmund 6 f/8 Orion's Deep Space Explorer 6 f/8 and later their SkyQuest XT-6 f/8, and the lesser-known Pirate 6 f/8...ALL these models have primary mirror cells that will house this very mirror. And, of course, any Criterion RV6!
