    Description

This auction is for a 1970 Sears (Towa of Japan) .965-inch porro prism unit from a 6335 equatorial refractor setup. It will come with its original set screw.
Though at this time Sears was still manufacturing their telescopes from (+) Royal Astro of Japan, (T) Towa of Japan was supplying some of the optics for their porro prisms and/or eyepieces and barlows.
Interestingly, the "JAPAN" stamps located on the inside baffle indicate these are (+) Royal Astros. If these were Towas, which can be and ARE identical to the weight, the "JAPAN" stamp would be super tiny and located on the chrome barrel towards the base. In the case of these eyepieces, these are genuine Towas.
Mechanics on this unit are of great quality. The chrome barrel is brass, the flat coverings are aluminum, the main cylinder body is polyurethane and the eyepiece barrel is aluminum with a steel set screw. It is just like the Orion and Celestron units from Vixen of the same dimensions many years later with the ONLY difference being their porros are slightly lighter in materials.
Not grossly aperture stopped, so it will work very well in any refractor f/8 or longer and any schmidt or maksutov cassegrain f/7 or longer.
    Heavy at 6 ounces.
This porro will work in ANY 60mm to 102mm refractor that uses .965-inch focusers as well as with small cassegrains like the USA-made C90s, Meade 97 Series maks, older Meade 107s, and the oldest Celestron C5s for example. When using a porro, you view in straight through format; so DO NOT use a diagonal when using this porro unit.
A porro prism works exactly like the prisms in your porro prism binoculars. Orientation will be correct to the image. So the "STOP" sign will be seen as "STOP" and if it is to your right, you will move your telescope to the right. This makes for very fun and easy terrestrial viewing of birds, ships, far away mountains, or other objects you want to follow as they move.
So to use this prism, follow the below schematic:
Your refractor or cassegrain .965-inch focuser + this porro prism + a .965-inch eyepiece
Any eyepiece will work in a porro prism. For best results, use a kellner, modified achromat, symmetrical modified achromat, or an orthoscopic.
WILL NOT work with Newtonian reflectors, Jones Bird-style reflectors, or hybrid reflectors like the Takahashi Epsilons, Dall Kirkham reflectors nor Ritchey Chretein/astrograph reflectors.
    Packed with great care.
